Who we are
We are an NCMD-affiliated club of detectorists operating across Hampshire, Wiltshire, Sussex and Surrey.
Our members range from newcomers on their first outing to experienced detectorists with decades of recorded finds behind them. What unites us is a respect for history, for the countryside, and for the responsibility that comes with recovering objects from the ground.
What we believe
Metal detecting is a privilege, not a right. Every dig begins with permission, ends with a refilled hole, and contributes records to the wider archaeological picture of Britain. We follow the NCMD Code of Conduct and actively support the Portable Antiquities Scheme, working closely with regional Finds Liaison Officers, museums and the coroner's service when significant or Treasure-eligible finds are recovered.
Saving and preserving history
Much of what our members recover would otherwise be lost to ploughing, chemical fertilisers, corrosion and the slow attrition of modern farming. By carefully lifting these objects and reporting them through the Portable Antiquities Scheme, we bring them into the public record before that record is lost forever. Every dig is, in a small way, an act of preservation, saving fragments of Britain's history that would otherwise disappear.
How we operate
The Club is based around its Facebook site, which is restricted to members only. This enables us to manage the logistics of the digs and to share photos of our finds with each other. We organise two digs every week, all year round come rain or shine. The digs are held on Thursday and Saturday and we have not missed a dig for over ten years.
