We are able to do this amazing hobby thanks entirely to a large number of understanding and supportive landowners, who kindly grant us permission to search their land each week.

We have a huge network of contacts and are well known and well respected. Land can be productive for many years as the farming cycle moves the land around and objects within it. However, eventually we need to locate and gain access to new sites.

We are scrupulous in ensuring that interesting and important finds are recorded by our members via the government’s voluntary recording scheme (Portable Antiquities Scheme) and all finds that fall under the  “Treasure Act” are reported in accordance with UK law. 

Digs are well organised with Marshalls and we remove any scrap metal from the fields. We ensure a defibrillator is on site. Controlling hole filling, use of gates, knowledge of boundaries, protection of scheduled sites, managing fire risk in summer, etc. All diggers are required to have 3rd party insurance (eg. NCMD)
